Discover Foodie Treasures in Florence

October 09, 2019

Food writer, sommelier and gelato-loving Florence expert Coral Sisk and her team of specialised guides lead personalised gourmet experiences in Florence and Bologna under the moniker Curious Appetite.

Coral's tours take guests on grazing tours around the heaving morning markets, uncovering the city’s finest bounty one mouthful at a time. Her Gourmet Food Lover’s Tour leads you to the heart of the city's cult classics and best-kept secrets, with tastings along the way. Sample the finest Renaissance cuisine, lick yourself silly with gelato, and taste local craft beers and cocktails. Here, Coral lets us in her favourite Flo foodie experiences, so pack your own Curious Appetite, and a-one, a-two, a-three… let's eat!

Sant'Ambrogio Market. For the finest local and seasonal food shopping, and a slice of authentic Florentine daily life. Amazing for grazing, perfect for people-watching. mercatosantambrogio.it

Cibreo Trattoria is one of the city's most lauded kitchens, famous for well-made comfort food like soups, braised meats, heartily prepared vegetable-based sides and simple yet elegant desserts. cibreo.com/en/cibreo-trattoria

Lampredotto is a Florentine speciality consisting of the fourth cow’s stomach stewed and stuffed into a bread roll or served in a bowl – eat it to believe it – found at the city's street kiosks. Head to the one in Piazza Beccaria or on Via de' Macci which are less touristy than the ones in the centre.

Stock up on high quality regional Italian olive oil and balsamic vinegar at Bottega dell'Olio. They specialise in estate-produced extra virgin olive oil from local producers in Tuscany and other renowned oil-producing regions in Italy. Piazzo del Limbo .

Semel Panini is worth the trip alone to meet gregarious owner Marco always in a dress shirt and tie. Don’t miss his mouth-watering panini creations with their made-from-scratch fillings modelled after traditional Tuscan dishes and products. Delizioso! Piazza Lorenzo Ghiberti.
