Sydney’s scorching restaurant scene just got even hotter with the opening of The Apollo in Potts Point. From star chef Jonathan Barthelmess (of Manly Pavilion and Coast) and Sam Christie, The Apollo focuses on classic, homey Greek cuisine, with star dishes featuring lamb loin and pork rump slow cooked over wood and served with Greek yoghurt. There’s also an option for the whole table to honour tradition with “The Full Greek” and enjoy a family-style meal. We’d stuff ourselves silly on mains, but we wouldn’t overlook dessert either, with mouth-watering options like “Ouzo-marinated watermelon with pineapple granita” and “walnuts filo pastry with honey” to choose from. How to choose? Better try both, then.

What a lark!
Sydney’s denizens may be blessed with the great outdoors, but they’re also devoted nest featherers, and the lucky poppets are spoilt for choice when it comes to standout furniture and décor stores. Carving a niche in the city’s lifestyle shop trail is Pure and General – part gift boutique, part home wares store, part Paris’ Merci (but for profit), and a showcase of the artisanal and unique, it’s the product of the owners’ year-long round-the-world retail harvest. Nice work, if you can get it…

Say ciao to bella Londra

Wham glam Spa on the Rocks

Here are five spas and facialists who’ll banish baggy and saggy and have you refreshed, glowing and ready to take on 2011. Chin up!

Softly does it
We all love a good yarn, but there’s yarn, and there’s yarn. When we came across Bemboka on a whistle stop trip to Sydney recently it was with a sharp intake of breath and long exhale of ooooh. Luxury cashmere throws, wool blankets, and cotton towels and linens seldom come in such a distinctly curated, highly desirable and usable collection, nor with such a distinct pedigree. Wrap up and read more.

Lust and beauty from Adriano Zumbo
It’s that time of year again – carnations and baby’s breath, silver balloons and greeting cards, hearts won and hopes dashed. There’s no avoiding Valentine’s day, unless possibly you’re in Myanmar, or North Korea, but there’s no need to make it cheesier than a Roquefort cave. Here’s a quick whip round the world for luxe ways to give and celebrate that won’t always break the bank, but are a darn good bet for bedroom Olympics. Mwaah!
OMG, we’ve just died and gone to piggie, cow and little lambkin heaven. A heaven of tender grain fed eye fillet beef, moist Kurobuta Berkshire Pork loins and juicy frenched lamb racks. This carnivore heaven is actually the most astounding butcher we’ve ever seen, Victor Churchill, sitting on a tree-lined street in the zhushy suburb of Woollahra in Sydney, Australia.
