Pas mal, Paris…

One of our staple shopportunities in Shanghai has made a trans-Atlantic voyage, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about the arrival of the exquisite Shang Xia in Paris. Born of a collaboration between quintessentially French fashion house Hermès and Chinese artistic director Jiang Qiong Er, the brand is a lesson in understated luxury, using traditional craftsmanship in a modern setting – think Ming-inspired zitan wood furny, porcelain teaware with intricate bamboo detailling, and painted crystal jewellery in tribute to Qing dynasty’s snuff boxes. Never has ‘made in China’ been more covetable!

Beauty haven

Urban oasis

Once again a fashion month has come and gone, and after the final autumn/winter shows wrap in Paris next week, everyone from beady-eyed editors to strutted-out models will be in need of a proper aura-restoring pamper – and we’re loving pretty Place Vendôme sanctuary Aquamoon.

Plush pamper palace

Simply marble-ous

Given the nod of approval by Vogue Paris, Aquamoon has 12 treatment rooms, 2 pools, steam room, sauna and hammam, with a treatment menu divided into four main programs: the detox-focused ‘Air’, anti-aging ‘Rejuvenation’, anti-stress ‘Divine’, and energy-boosting ‘Sublime’. Book in for a one-day, one-week, three-week, or – if you’re feeling indulgent enough to prolong that Parisian sojourn – five-week program, and you’ll gain access to a range of equipment including private WaterBike, detoxifying Iyashi Dôme and JetSpa. Mais pourquoi pas?

Marquis Faubourg Saint Honore

Ooh-la-looovely

We have so much to thank the French for, whether it be Chanel, French kissing, or le fromage bien fort, but not quite so widely-acknowledged are the number of pretty French words we’ve appropriated into the English language, ‘boutique’ being one of them. Now, if ever a hotel merited – nay, demanded – such a fetching descriptor, it is the Marquis Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Formerly the C.18th private mansion of Marquis de Lafayette, nestled into Paris’ 8th arrondissement, it has recently been refashioned into a 15-room luxury boutique hotel under the gimlet eye of architect and interior designer Michele Bönan. Alors, on y va!

Entrez, voyez ce qui vous attend...

Touched by the Touche stick!

The City of Light’s Pigalle arrondissement is still home to the infamous Moulin Rouge, but the southern section of this former red light district, now dubbed SoPi, is where the booming BoBo population has made its new home – and it’s no surprise that with their arrival, a flurry of chic indie shops and hip haunts followed! At the heart of it all is Le Rocketship, a café-boutique owned and personally-curated by Benoit Touche, who left a corporate 9-to-5 to realise his dream of opening a design concept store. Set foot inside and order up a signature ‘Coutume Coffee’ from the mini bar (they do an ace macchiato), and sip it while Benoit tells you about the story behind each of the pieces on offer, from lighting to tableware, and posters to kids’ togs. Ready, set, blastoff!

Chateau chic

With New YorkLondon and Milan done and dusted quicker that you can say Chanel, it’s onwards to Paris to pray at the sartorial altar of McQueen and Lanvin (and Dior, Marant, the list goes on, but we digress…). For digs as designer as the catwalks’ couture, check in at the Saint James Hotel, a luxurious 100-year-old chateau complete with grand marble foyer and unwavering service. In homage to the city’s first airfield (on which it is built), the gorgeous grounds feature three towering hot air balloons amid lush greenery, perfect for admiring between sips on the alfresco terrace or from the fiery red-hued Restaurant and Library Bar. With 48 decadent suites to choose from, we say spring for the monochrome-chic Boudoir Room or deluxe three-storey Love Pavilion with private relaxation area and lounge, then flit over to the Gemology Spa for a mineral massage and a little pre-party rejuvenation that’ll have you red carpet-ready in no time. Fête!
