Roll up, roll up!
Just when things looked to be calming down in Bangkok, along comes David Thompson, stirring the culinary debate pot with the opening of his smart new Thai restaurant, Nahm, at the Metropolitan hotel. The London-based Aussie, who runs the first ever (and still) Michelin-starred Thai restaurant of the same Nahm at sister hotel The Halkin in London, has certainly copped it from locals as a foreigner bringing his brand of “authentic” cuisine to the Big Mango, but we, for one are licking our chops in contentment.

Zing! Almeta's silk
It started with an email, a witty, but most of all, useful and informative email written by LUXE City Guides’ Publishing Editor, and at that time Bangkok resident, Grant Thatcher. Packed with insider tips on the best places to eat, drink, shop, stay and play in Bangkok, it was saved, used and unendingly forwarded to and from the most stylish travellers in Asia until one day, it found its way back to Grant himself. Ting! Lightbulb moment. Seemingly within two shakes of a lamb’s tail, the very first LUXE City Guide was launched, and now eight years later (to the day), 32 resident editors, hundreds and hundreds of resident contributors, and over a million copies sold, the rest, as they say, is history. Mwaah!
LUXE Bangkok is now in its tenth edition [ed. I have the grey hair to prove it] and so much has changed from our first soi searches. As one of Asia’s top style destis, there’s always something new and fab in the Big Mango, but seeing as we’re stepping down eight years of memory lane, let’s not forget the tried and true places that keep ringing our bell again, and again, having stood the test of time and the loyalty of the city’s influencers. Here are four of a very select group of establishments that never fail to please us, and have been in LUXE Bangkok since day one… Hats off to you, and happy birthday to us!

Slow and spicy wins the race at Bo.lan

Our first post a few weeks back on our favourite spice dens was a fiery hit, so here then, are five more places close to home or in dream destinations guaranteed to warm up the cockles of your heart.
