Tinkerbell, is that you...
Time was you could always find fairies at the bottom of your garden, as long as you believed in them, but in the world of Wii we live in today they’re scarce as hen’s teeth. Unless you live in Bangkok. Tucked away on hip strip Thonglor is an intoxicating dingly dell of a new bar, The Iron Fairies, that has the Big Mango’s boys with poise and girls sans pearls in a spell – a dark, whimsical, unique and atmospheric adult hideaway where clever Aussie Ashley Sutton brings together wine, cocktails and comfort food with, of all things, a foundry. Clap your hands for Tinkerbell and if you really believe…

Here be sprites...
Behind the raggedy old wooden doors lies this weeny Neverland bar of fantastical mobiles, spiral stairs that lead nowhere, low stools, old cabinets and reclaimed wood tables. On the other side of the room is a blacksmith’s workshop, producing the metal figurines that give the bar its name, and everywhere in between is the cool cosmo crowd going hammer and tongs for the quirky vibe.

Up, up and... to where?
Based on fairytales written by Ashley himself, about a group of children in the 1800s who discover a secret underground community of miners who craft iron fairies and leave them in gardens, Ash has tapped his wand and hey presto! In the know grown-ups get to relive their childhood days, only this time it’s for real, more hedonistic, fun and tastier.

Moody and magical
The brave should order the signature absinthe cocktail, served in a chemistry flask, while those who wish to get lairy with the fairies should immediately down the supersized lychee martini. If hunger pangs bite, gorge on the Binzy burger, made with 750g of oz beef, lettuce, cheese, tomato and 3 “special sauces” - it’s big enough to crush any sprite.

Fairy good food
Should you wish to take home a fairy [ed. easy, Tiger], you can simply buy one from the atelier. No two are alike, and each comes in its own aged leather bag and handmade wooden box, with a little amulet of “Magic Fairy Dust” to prevent rusting. Bless. The copper-bottomed hipster crew are diggin’ it for post-prandials, so what are you waiting for? Dust off your wings and flutter on down quicksticks, but go easy on the green potion, or you’ll soon be off with the you know what…
