The fabulous Julie, a.k.a. A Lady in London, is an avid traveller who has collected passport stamps from more than 80 countries in the last 10 years alone, but is based in luxe, lovely London. A travel consultant by day, this travel-bug-bitten lady regularly jetsets away by night – our kinda gal!
Tell us about your perfect summer’s day in London?
A perfect summer’s day in London would consist of a picnic and a walk in Hampstead Heath. It is one of the city’s biggest parks, and is a great place to get away from the bustle of central London. There are bathing ponds if you’re brave enough to take a dip, and Parliament Hill offers great views across London. Kenwood House is a good museum, and there are concerts there during summer evenings, while nearby Spaniard’s Inn is the perfect place for a post-picnic pint.
What do you think are the most underrated spots in London?
My picks for underrated spots in London are the Columbia Road Flower Market, Exmouth Market, and Sir John Soane’s Museum – they are all worth a visit on a trip to London, whether it’s your first trip or your tenth!
OK, and what’s a must-do for London visitors, no matter how touristy?
Every visitor should take a walk along the Thames. A lot of London’s best sights can be seen from there, including the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Tower Bridge (above) and the Tower of London, and the iconic London Eye. Along the way you can stop for a snack at Borough Market or visit the Tate Modern, which is one of London’s best museums.
You’ve travelled all over the world, but what do you love most about London?
My favourite thing about this city is that it’s a hub for so many things – world class art, music, and cultural offerings all come through London on a regular basis. And the city has an incredible energy!
